On the 29th July 2017, the third annual Barry Sleney Memorial Football Tournament will be held at Goodwin Sports Centre in Sheffield. Teams from across South Yorkshire will be taking part in the tournament to raise funds for the Western Park Cancer Charity.Barry Sleney was a father, a loving husband, and friend to many. He sadly passed away on Boxing Day 2014 after suffering with chronic heart disease. In 2015 and 2016 the first two tournaments were held and approximately £4000 was raised for the British Heart Foundation. This year the family and organisers have decided to switch the focus to another charity close to Barry’s heart, The Weston Park Cancer Charity, to aid their wonderful work.Sheffield based creative marketing agency Objective Creative are proud to support the tournament.Dan Broadbent, Managing Director of Objective Creative said “Members of our team are involved in the tournament, so we wanted to show our support for a great Sheffield charity.“As tournament sponsors we are able to contribute to a great day of football and fundraising.”Tournament organiser Gary Crownshaw said “The tournament continues to get bigger and better every year. Twelve teams have entered the football competition, so we expect a competitive, friendly, afternoon of football. May the best team win!”The fundraising will continue into the evening with an event at the New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road. The event, starting at 7.30PM on Saturday 29th July, will feature live music, a raffle and auction. There will also be a trophy presentation to the winners of the football tournament. Everyone is welcome to attend the evening event.
